Preservation and restoration of buildings

(Summer semester)

This courses is intended for Master students studying architecture, civil- or mechanical engineering

Restoration of buildings:

The students acquire knowledge on important physical, chemical and electrochemical damage mechanisms in concrete buildings and obtain profound knowlegde on damage analysis, repair materials and their constructional application. In addition, basic knowledge will be taught on fibrous dangerous substances including asbestos, the evaluation of the urgency for asbestos restoration and its implementation. This will allow them to evaluate real damages and to establish and implement suitable measures for maintenance.

Preservation of buildings:

The students will learn important aspects of thermal and moisture protection with regard to the physics and material technology of buildings. Furthermore they will be taught basic knowledge on roof constructions, waterproofing of roofs and landfill base liners . This will allow them to avoid and evaluate damages related to building physics during the planning and implementation.
